What is CLASSROOM JEOPARDY!
This exciting interactive game brings
the sights and sounds of the TV show Jeopardy! to your classroom.
From the moment students hear the distinctive Jeopardy! theme
music, they'll be immersed in an entertaining multimedia experience.
Developed in cooperation with the creators of the award-winning
quiz show, Classroom Jeopardy! plays just like the television
version with one important difference: The content is tailored
by you, the educator, to align with your own curriculum.

Game Play
Can the Daily Double be evoked
at will?
The Daily Double is randomly selected by the
Classroom Jeopardy! microprocessor.
Can the Final
Jeopardy! wager be other than 100 unit increments?
Classroom Jeopardy! only accepts wagers in increments
of 100; however, a player can write some other desired wager and
the Host can do the calculation manually.
Can game program changes be made
while playing a game?
Before making any program changes, the host
must exit the game, remove the antenna, plug in the keyboard and
proceed through the programming menus as required.
How many students can play?
Three players/teams can play when using just
the Classroom Jeopardy! base unit (EI-7920 or EI-7910).
- We suggest dividing the classroom into three
teams. Each team will have one remote. The first student in
each team has an opportunity to answer a question. They then
pass the Student Remote on to the next team member.
- If you purchase more of the Player Remotes,
each member of the team can have a remote. This option works
great for Math Bowls, Science Bowls, History Bowls, etc.
- If you add an Extra Scoreboard and three
(3) Remotes (EI-7921 or EI-7910) up to six players/teams can
play.
- Using the team approach mentioned above,
split the classroom into six teams. This will allow students
to have a chance to answer a question more often.
- Up to nine additional Extra Scoreboards can
be added to the Base Control Unit for a total of 30 scoring
positions and 30 individual Player Remotes.
Does Classroom Jeopardy! have
the Daily Double?
Yes, each Jeopardy! round has one Daily Double
clue and each Double Jeopardy! round has two Daily Double Clues.
The program randomly selects these clues.
Can the Daily Double be evoked
at will?
No. The Daily Double clue is selected randomly
by the Classroom Jeopardy! microprocessor.
Can the Final Jeopardy!
wager be other than 100 unit increments?
Classroom Jeopardy! only accepts wagers in increments
of 100; however, a player can write some other desired wager and
the Host can do the calculation manually.
Can game program
changes be made while playing a game?
No. Before making any program changes, the Host
must exit the game, remove the antenna, plug in the keyboard,
and proceed through the programming menus as required. Changes
can also be made using Classroom Jeopardy! Editor and saved to
a cartridge. In any case, you must exit the game to make changes
to the game stored on the cartridge.

How do I check cells to see which
are empty or full?
If you have Classroom Jeopardy! Link, you can
use it to check for empty cells.
If the game you want to check is a Classroom
Jeopardy! Game file, open the game in Classroom Jeopardy! Editor.
Be sure to check both the SJ and DJ rounds.
If the game you want to check is on a cartridge,
do the following:
1. Insert the cartridge into your connected
Classroom Jeopardy! Link unit.
2. In Classroom Jeopardy! Editor, select the Cartridge Tool
from the Toolbar, then select and open the game you wish to
check. Be sure to check both the SJ and DJ rounds.
If you do not have Classroom Jeopardy! Link
you can use the keyboard that came with your gray Classroom Jeopardy!
Base Unit (EI-7920).
You can check for empty cells by loading a game
from a cartridge, or if you are creating or editing a game, by
pressing the F11 key TEMP (template). The display will show a
little square dot in each cell containing content. Cells with
no dot are empty. To view/edit content or enter content into an
empty cell, scroll to the cell on the template and press ENTER.
Can I program a partial game?
Yes, there is no minimum to the number of clues
required for a game.
However, if any cell contains a clue, then the
abbreviated and full category cells for that column must also
have content or the clues for that column will not be displayed
on the TV.
Sometimes I cannot get seven lines
in a clue cell.
A clue cell is full when it contains 140 characters
including spaces and carriage returns. The number of lines that
the display scrolls to may vary.
Sometimes I cannot get three lines
in an abbreviated category cell.
An abbreviated category cell is full when it
contains 21 characters including spaces and carriage returns.
The number of lines that the display scrolls to may vary.
Sometimes I cannot get three lines
in an unabbreviated category cell.
An unabbreviated category cell is full when
it contains 60 characters including spaces and carriage returns.
The number of lines that the display scrolls to may vary.
I cannot get 10 games on the cartridge.
A cartridge holds 5 to 12 games, depending upon
the length of content (the number of characters including spaces)
entered in the cells.
How do I see how much memory
on a cartridge is in use?
If you have Classroom Jeopardy! Link, you can
use it to check for cartridge memory use. Simply do the following:
- Insert the cartridge into your connected
Classroom Jeopardy! Link unit.
- In Classroom Jeopardy! Editor, select the
Cartridge Tool from the Toolbar. The “Unused Storage”
field below the game list tells you how much memory is available
for more game storage.
If you do not have Classroom Jeopardy! Link
you can use the keyboard that came with your gray Classroom Jeopardy!
Base Unit (EI-7920).
To see how many games and what percentage of
storage memory is used on a cartridge, do the following:
- Insert the cartridge into the base unit.
- Press the F4 CART key on the keyboard.

be used?
Yes. There are several special characters that
can be used.
If you have Classroom Jeopardy! Editor, you
can view the Special Characters window by selecting Help ->
Special Characters from the Menu Bar or by pressing F12 on your
computer’s keyboard. The list of available Special Characters
and the keystroke combinations required to create them will be
displayed.

symbols can be viewed (while editing or creating a game) by pressing
the F12 FONT key. The key stroke required to get the desired symbol
is displayed along with the symbol.

italicized or displayed in bold?
Letters can only be displayed in a plain all
caps style; they cannot be underscored, italicized, or displayed
in bold.
A single underscore character can be typed using
the Shift+Hyphen key. Use single underscore characters when you
want to show how many letters there are in a word in a clue.A
long underscore character can be used to represent words in a
clue. Type Shift+U to create a long underscore.
The long underscore is only available in Classroom
Jeopardy! Base Units with software version higher than 1.01.04.
The software version for your Classroom Jeopardy! Base Unit is
displayed on the opening splash screen that appears when you first
turn on your base unit. Your Classroom Jeopardy! Base Unit’s
software can be upgraded using Classroom Jeopardy! Link.
Can foreign languages be used?
Foreign languages can be entered if they use
the standard English alphabet.
Are character accents available?
Character accents are not available.
Can graphics, videos and custom
audio be programmed into the game?
It is not possible to display colors, geometrical
shapes, graphics, pictures, or video clips. The host may provide
external posters, pictures, overheads, or audio clues. Prompts
for using these clues can be added to the answer key. This reinforces
learning with additional sights and sounds.
If I haven’t finished writing or programming
a game, can I leave it unfinished?
If you have Classroom Jeopardy! Editor, you
can simply save the game to your computer’s hard drive.
When you want to continue writing or editing, open the game in
Classroom Jeopardy! Editor and continue working on the game.
If you do not have Classroom Jeopardy! Editor,
you can still partially program a game and finish programming
it later, but be sure to save the game to a cartridge. If the
keyboard is disconnected before programming is saved to the cartridge
and the power is turned off, all programming will be lost.
How do I EDIT a cell within a
game?
If you have Classroom Jeopardy! Editor, do the
following:

dot in each cell containing content. Cells with no content
are empty.

into an empty cell, scroll to the cell on the template and
press ENTER and then begin editing.
Can I erase games from the cartridge?
Yes, follow the directions on page 46 (EI-7920)
or page 60 (EI-7910) of the Teacher's Guide. However, since it
takes time to program the questions on the cartridge, we recommend
purchasing more cartridges. If you no longer need the game, it
can be erased and the space used for a new game.
How many questions/clues are
needed for each game?
A game can contain as many as sixty-one (61)
questions. Each complete game is made up of a Single Jeopardy!,
Double Jeopardy!, and Final Jeopardy! game. Each Single and Double
Jeopardy! game holds up to 30 questions and the Final Jeopardy!
is one question. There is no requirement that you fill each cell.

How do I find the VIDEO or LINE
on my TV?
This can be the most challenging aspect of initially
setting up the Classroom Jeopardy! However, once you have done
it, you will use the same method in the future. Each TV is different,
but as long as your TV has A/V jacks it will have the ability
to tune to VIDEO or LINE. Below is a list of methods that have
worked on different TV brands.
The first step is to connect your A/V cables
from the Base Control Unit (BCU) to the TV. Turn on the BCU. The
BCU will transmit a blue screen that includes the Jeopardy! logo,
some legal information, and a blinking BEGIN. This will help you
recognize when you have the correct channel selected.
- Check to see if your TV has a TV/VIDEO or
TV/LINE button on the front. If so, push it once to select VIDEO
or LINE.
- Using your TV remote, tune to channel 00.
- Using your TV remote, check to see if there
is a TV/VIDEO or TV/LINE button. If so, select it.
- Using your TV remote, go to the SETUP screen
and change the signal from TV to LINE.
